Capitalization: the rules these questions test

Always: sentence starts and the word I: The word I is capitalized wherever it appears in a sentence, which surprises children who expect capitals only at the beginning.
Names of particular people, places and things: Sarah, Chicago, Maple Street, the Pacific Ocean, Buddy the dog. General versions of the same words stay lowercase: girl, city, street, ocean.
Days, months and holidays — but not seasons: Tuesday, November, Thanksgiving all take capitals. summer, winter, morning and weekend do not.
Family words only when used as a name: "I asked Aunt Maria" takes a capital; "I asked my aunt" does not. The test is whether you could swap in a first name.
Titles capitalize the main words: Over the Rainbow, Charlotte's Web. Short words like the, of, a and in stay lowercase unless they come first.
Directions vs regions: "We flew north" is a direction and stays lowercase. "the American Revolution" and place names are capitalized.
